Graham Quirk:  A new Lord Mayor, same 'Can Do' approach
Following Campbell Newman’s decision to run for State Parliament, Council has today endorsed Councillor Graham Quirk as Brisbane’s new Lord Mayor.

State Government legislation (the City of Brisbane Act) states that if the Lord Mayor’s position becomes vacant within 12 months of a scheduled election, a serving Councillor must be appointed to fill the vacancy.

Graham Quirk is one of Brisbane’ s most experienced Councillors and has served as Campbell Newman’s deputy since 2004.

As Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee, Graham has been responsible for delivering Council’s record capital works program, which has seen around 15 years worth of road upgrades fast-tracked into just 4 years.

Many local residents, particularly in the suburb of Rochedale - will know that Graham is someone who puts the community first. He famously ‘crossed the floor’ to support local residents and voted against his own party to oppose the construction of the Rochedale Dump in the early 1990s.

Graham’ s experience and record of delivering major projects means that Brisbane is in good hands as we continue the massive job of rebuilding Brisbane after the January flood.

Brisbane may have a new Lord Mayor, but Graham Quirk will bring the same ‘Can Do’ approach to the job that has seen Council delivering real results for Brisbane in recent years.

Best wishes,

New traffic signal system gets green light

Brisbane's new traffic light management system

Brisbane City Council has begun rolling out a new traffic light management system that will improve traffic flow across the city’s most congested intersections. Lord Mayor Graham Quirk this week announced that Council is introducing the internationally-renowned 'SCATS' traffic management system across the entire road network.
