Welcome to the third edition of Get Connected for 2014.

It is that time of year again…. Nominations for the Griffith Business School Alumni Network (GBSAN) Outstanding Alumnus and Young Outstanding Alumnus of the Year open today!

The GBSAN Outstanding Alumnus Awards aim to recognise the remarkable achievements and successes of our alumni. The recipients of the awards will be honoured at our annual dinner and award night, to be held on Friday 31 October at the Sofitel Brisbane.

In 2013 we recognised Karl Morris as the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. Karl has been a leading contributor to the Australian stockbroking industry for the past 25 years. In addition, he is an active company director, philanthropist and a patron of education, the arts and various not-for-profit organisations. Sarah Bairstow was named the 2013 Outstanding Young Alumnus of the Year. Working as Santos Limited’s LNG Marketing Manager on their flagship $18.5 billion Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, at the age of 30, Ms Bairstow has achieved a level of success envied by those many years her senior.

I encourage you to nominate yourself or a fellow graduate of Griffith Business School for recognition in 2014. More information on the awards, the nomination process and stories of previous winners can be found on the GBSAN website.

On another note, this month we welcome two new members to the GBS Alumni Advisory Group (AAG). The AAG is fundamental in creating opportunities for our alumni network. Members of the group serve as strategic thought leaders, collaborators and catalysts for action to support the Network's mission statement.

We are excited to have Mark Malhi and Monique Jeremiah join our group. Mark graduated in 2012 with a double degree Business and Commerce, now an Advanced Financial Planner at Westpac, Mark is extremely enthusiastic about his role in the group. He has a strong focus on providing professional development opportunities within the GBS alumni network. Monique, Owner and Director of Exceptional Tuition and Resumes, graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor Business. Monique is already a highly engaged member of the GBS Alumni Network; she won the GBS Outstanding Young Alumnus Award in 2012.

I welcome Monique and Mark and encourage anyone interested in being a member of the AAG to contact Ms Laura Keele, Manager, Alumni (Business), gbs-alumni@griffith.edu.au. More information regarding the AAG is available online.

Best wishes,
