Councillor
Adrian Schrinner's June e-News Update2010-11 Council Budget Edition
"It’s an exciting time to be your representative in Brisbane City Council." I
have lived in Brisbane all my life but don’t remember a time when so much work has been happening
both locally and across the city. It's very clear that Lord Mayor Campbell Newman really is getting on
with the job of delivering the upgrades and improvements our city needs for the future.
Traffic
congestion is always a big issue and locally, we’ve seen some major road upgrades in recent times.
Projects like the Scrub Road extension, Greendale Way connection, Grassdale Road Bridge upgrade, Tilley
Road / New Cleveland Road upgrade, Creek Road / Pine Mt Road upgrade and two major intersection upgrades
on Meadowlands Road are some recent examples. As part of our plan to purchase 500 new buses, we’
ve been working to renew our bus fleet at the Carina and Garden City depots. The brand new Volvo buses
at Carina are already proving to be very popular with local bus users. Although a lot has already
been achieved, there’s always more to do and that’s why it's been a pleasure to work with
the Lord Mayor, in my role as Finance Committee Chairman, to help put together a budget that will deliver
even more for Brisbane and our local area. Yours sincerely,
Adrian Schrinner Back

Back
to Top Taking
advantage of the growing number of walkways and bikeways in the local area is a great way to exercise,
help reduce pollution and road congestion, save money on petrol and appreciate the great outdoors.
To ensure that using
a bikeway is a relaxed and enjoyable experience, it is important to remember the following bikeway safety
tips: 1. Cyclists and pedestrians must share the pathway. 2. Cyclists must give way to pedestrians
and slow down before passing on the right. 3. Pedestrians should keep to the left and not block the
path. 4. Cyclists must have bells attached to their bikes by law, and should sound their bell to warn
pedestrians that they are about to pass on the right. 5. Pedestrians should revert to single file as
close to the left as possible when they hear the bell. 6. Cycling is permitted on footpaths in Brisbane
unless prohibited by signs. By observing these simple guidelines, everyone can feel safe on shared
pathways. Back to Top

Library Fee Amnesty to benefit welfare
groups
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has given residents the chance to waive their overdue library fees by donating
a can of food during an amnesty until the end of June. Cr
Newman said Council would be waiving more $1.4 million in return for the donations that will be given
to Foodbank to distribute to welfare agencies and needy families.
“These people should take
a can of tinned food to one of Council’s 32 libraries with their library card and any overdue books
to get their fines waived,” he said. Cr Newman said the tinned food would be given by Council
to Foodbank to distribute to welfare agencies. A similar scheme in June 2005 collected more than
30,000 tins of food and returned almost 3,000 items to libraries. He said Council would run the
amnesty on fines and overdue items until the end of June to allow library users to return outstanding
books, magazines, DVDs or other materials and have their fines waived. The amnesty does not include
charges for lost or damaged items. For further information visit the Carindale Library or call Council
on 07 3403 8888. Back to Top
