CALAMVALE DISTRICT PARK UPDATE

In a recent e-news I advised we were close to delivering a new car park
and shelter at Calamvale District Park, in time for the school holidays and weather permitting.
Regrettably due to the recent spell of wet weather, the shelter and
carpark remain under construction. It is anticipated, should the weather gods be forgiving, we will be
on schedule for the official opening next Friday, 6 July.
If I can
be of assistance to you with any Council matters or should you have an upcoming community event, story
you’d like featured in my e-newsletter or suggestions on information you want to receive, please
do not hesitate to contact me by calling the
Parkinson Ward Office on 3131 7022 or sending an email to parkinson.ward@ecn.net.au.
All feedback is welcome and appreciated.

NEW SHELTER AND CARPARK CLOSE
TO COMPLETION
I
conducted a site inspection this week and the opening of a second carpark and new large use outdoor shelter
are a week from delivery.
Due to the popularity of the Calamvale District
Park which was officially opened on Australia Day 2012, the completion of the second carpark is eagerly
anticipated by many park users.
The second carpark will run off Ormskirk
Street and will provide specific set down facilities for people with disabilities, as well as parking
for approximately 45 vehicles.
Currently on a weekend there are up
to 50 cars parking on street in Formby Street.
This will mean park
users will be able to park their car in close proximity to the adventure playground and barbeques areas.
This park is rapidly becoming a destination park for many families,
with many choosing to celebrate birthdays and special events in the park.
A large outdoor shelter will be available for booking via Council. I'd be happy to take your enquiries
in the lead up to the official opening next week, weather permitting.
The large group shelter has six picnic tables and will be available for limited bookings on the weekends,
as well as more flexible bookings during the week.
Residents are reminded
that the use of barbeques are for all park users and the smaller shelters are not able to be booked nor
do they have exclusive use of the barbeques.
As a public park, no jumping castles are permitted to be erected for
private activity.
For people with disabilities who require special
assistance, a key for the changing places toilet facility is available at the Parkinson Ward Office.
I've also requested the addition of a baby change table and its installation
is pending.
Of great pleasure during my inspection this week was the
installation of a mural dedicated to the students of Calamvale Community College, Algester State School
and St Stephens School for their pivotal involvement in the creation of the Adventure Playground.
For further information, please phone the Parkinson Ward Office on 3131 7022.
