Well another financial year over and Parmia would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Access 1st Alliance members for their support over the past twelve months. It has been a very successful year in difficult times, which I guess highlights the fact that members are looking to maximise the value they gain from being with a professional Association, and utilising the discounted services and products to best effect.

The NSW State Government has unveiled plans for a new $170 million hospital in the south-eastern region of Bega Valley, helping to provide clinical capacity beyond 2021.

More than 150 inpatient beds-as well as day-only beds and spaces will be included as part of the new South East Regional Hospital, along with an expanded mental health service, medical oncology and paediatric units.

According to state Healh Minister Jillian Skinner, the new facility will be a welcomed addition to the local area.

"The new hospital will provide residents of the Bega Valley and surrounding areas with a fully integrated, contemporary health facility," she said (June 28).

"The hospital will expand the range of clinical services and will be designed to meet the future needs of the region."

Whilst the substantial investment may be able to benefit public patients in the Bega Valley, residents with private health insurance will still enjoy the flexibility of shorter treatment times and access to a doctor of their own choosing by attending a private hospital that is close to them.

Construction is scheduled to commence early 2013 and the new facility is expected to be opened in 2016.
