NEW $7M PARKINSON POOL COMPLEX
Delivering for our community

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and Councillor Angela Owen-Taylor are delivering on their 2012 election commitment by announcing a site has been chosen at 751 Algester Road, Parkinson, for a new $7 million public swimming pool complex.

Local Councillor Angela Owen-Taylor (Parkinson Ward) said the new pool facility would offer the local community more opportunities for fun, fitness and recreation.

“We want Brisbane to be a city where people lead active and healthy lifestyles and once complete this facility will give more people in Parkinson and surrounding areas the chance to do that,” Cr Angela Owen-Taylor said.

“While it is early days in the project, we know that the facilities may include an outdoor pool plus an indoor heated pool, an entry building, kiosk and change room facilities.”

Cr Angela Owen-Taylor said the announcement followed the success of the ‘Three Pools Project’ which saw new pools delivered in Runcorn (February 2009), Mt Gravatt (March 2009) and Colmslie (July 2010) and would bring the number of Brisbane City Council’s public pools to 22.”

“The preferred site is at 751 Algester Road, but Council would be subject to the normal Development Application (DA) process.

“Detailed design for the project is expected to be underway towards the end of this year and completed by mid-2014.

“Construction is expected to start in mid to late 2014 and it is anticipated people will be able to enjoy the new swimming facility by the end of 2015,” Cr Owen-Taylor concluded.
