PROPOSED CHANGES TO BRISBANE BUS ROUTES

ROUTE 101

This route is proposed to be substantially changed while continuing to provide regular services to the Inala Loop and Inala Plaza, but no longer replicating the route 100 between Inala Plaza and the Ipswich Motorway, or the rail line between Oxley and Corinda.

The new extended 101 route would operate seven days per week between Forest Lake Village and Richlands Station via College Avenue, Crossacres Street, Blunder Road, Inala Loop and Inala Plaza. On weekdays it would extend to Oxley Station via the Archerfield Road/Boundary Road Industrial Area (some of which is currently unserviced) and Oxley Road.

ROUTE 118

This service would start in College Avenue and follow a more logical anti-clockwise path through the same streets in Forest Lake, but no longer stop at Eight Mile Plains.

ROUTE P129

This service is proposed to operate as a morning inbound service only. This means the afternoon services would no longer operate, given the unused capacity on these services and the availability of alternative high frequency service options for affected passengers.

Alternative services available include the 130 BUZ the 131 Algester rocket and the P137 Sunnybank Hills shuttle.

ROUTE 131

This service would operate every 12 minutes between 4:24pm and 6:00pm, rather than the current 10 minutes.

Patronage on the Route 131 is able to be supported by routes 130 and P137.

ROUTE P133

Route change
This service is proposed to be amalgamated with the P137 (Sunnybank Hills to City pre-paid fare rocket) and operate as the P137. The bus stopping pattern would be the same as the P137, including servicing the same stops along Mains Road, but with the addition of stops at Griffith University Busway Station, Holland Park West Busway Station and Greenslopes Busway Station in line with the stopping pattern of the P133. The new route would not service the Buranda Busway station.

Timetable change
Additional trips would be added to the new P137 to ensure there is sufficient capacity. Under the proposal the P137 would operate every five minutes between 6:50am and 8:30am, rather than the current 10 minutes, and an additional afternoon service at 6:14pm to extend the operating hours.

LORD MAYOR MEDIA RELEASE
Southside to get increased access in Bus Review
Monday, 22 April 2013

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has today released Council’s detailed review of the city’s bus network, ensuring more than two thirds of passengers will remain unaffected by the proposed changes.

The Lord Mayor reassured residents that the review did not propose any sweeping changes to current services, with Council keeping the highly popular BUZ and Glider routes.

“In taking on this review at the request of the State Government, we have identified the most common sense proposals, which we believe will help deliver an improved and more efficient bus network,” Cr Quirk said.

“We have conducted the review based off our own detailed knowledge of the network, and this is why we are retaining our most popular services, such as our 18 BUZ and two CityGlider routes, which carry 43 per cent of passengers.

“ The review proposes some improvements for passengers, including increased access to previously un-serviced areas of Calamvale, Drewvale and Doolandella along with further accessibility for Forest Lake and Heathwood.”

The proposed changes for Brisbane’s south include five route removals, based on low patronage and route duplication including P461 Forest Lake to City Rocket, 462 Darra Station to Heathwood, 465 Richlands Station to Heathwood, 466 Richlands to Willawong and the P88 Eight Mile Plains to Indooroopilly via City.

Current passengers of the P461, 462, 465 and 466 will still maintain access to services through a proposed redesign of the routes in the area.

Cr Quirk said current passengers of the P88 have a range of high frequency alternatives including the 111 and 444 BUZ services and a proposed new peak rocket P163 operating between Eight Mile Plains and the city.

“While we understand that any removal will be an inconvenience to some, some of the route removals proposed involve services where buses are often empty, and in some cases the routes only operate once or twice per day,” he said.

“Ultimately the big win for the community is that we have ensured the majority of the travelling public will remain unaffected and that we are leaving no area completely without a service.”

Council has identified proposed changes, based on a careful and thorough review of network data and patronage trends, which for Brisbane’s south included 66 routes with no changes, of a total 102 routes, 5 route removals and 37 service changes including:

  • 17 timetable changes (77, 104, P119, P129, 131, P133, P137, 156, P157, 161, 162, 170, P179, 181, 198, 451, 460)
  • 20 route changes (66, 101, 102, 103, 109, 117, 118, P119, P133, P137, 138, 153, 161, P179, 183, 199, 460, 475, 590, Maroon CityGlider)

He said it was now time for residents to have their say on Council’s bus network review, with feedback opening to the public from Monday 22 April.

“ I encourage southside residents to look over Council’s proposals online or at a Council regional business centre or library, and submit their feedback,” he said.

“Residents have until Monday 20 May to have their say, and Council will consider all community feedback before submitting the review to the State Government on 1 June.”

To view the proposed changes and to submit feedback on the proposals go online to www.brisbane.qld.gov.au  or visit a Council regional business centre or library before 20 May.

KEY FACTS FOR BRISBANE SOUTH

Brisbane City Council’ s bus network review has assessed 235 routes across the entire network, identifying specifically on Brisbane’ s south:

  • 66 routes with no changes
  • 5 route removals
  • 37 service changes including:

17 timetable changes (77, 104, P119, P129, 131, P133, P137, 156, P157, 161, 162, 170, P179, 181, 198, 451, 460)

 20 route changes (66, 101, 102, 103, 109, 117, 118, P119, P133, P137, 138, 153, 161, P179, 183, 199, 460, 475, 590, Maroon Glider)
** Some services will have both a route and timetable change

More than 68 per cent of passengers will remain unaffected by the proposed changes.

Across the entire network there are 9 route removals, which accounts for only 1.75% of the total network patronage, with Brisbane’s south having 5 removals:

  •  P88 Eight Mile Plains to Indooroopilly via City: Current passengers of the P88 have a range of high frequency alternatives including the 111 and 444 BUZ services and a proposed new peak rocket P163 operating between Eight Mile Plains and the city.
  •  P461 Forest Lake to City: This peak hour service has low patronage for a rocket service and is a duplication of existing services, which could adequately meet demand.
  • 462 Darra Station to Heathwood: On average this service carries between 1 and 3 passengers per trip.
  • 465 Richlands Station to Heathwood: Passengers currently using this service would be able to use the revised route 460 which would service Richlands Station, Forest Lake and Heathwood.
  • 466 Richlands Station to Willawong: This service carries an average of less than five passengers per trip.

Of the proposed timetable and/or route changes in Brisbane’s south, some offer service improvements:

  • Servicing the previously un-serviced areas of Doolandella on the 101 by extending the service to Oxley Station via the Acherfield Road and Boundary Road industrial area.
  • The removal of the stop at Eight Mile Plains on the 118 would help to solve issues of overcrowding, along with the inclusion of new stops in College Avenue, which would reduce travel times to the CBD for passengers in the area.
  • Improving accessibility for passengers in Calamvale by re-routing the 138 down Benheim Road and Hamish Road, rather than Algester Road.
  • Increasing the number of passengers able to access services in Drewvale, with the 153 to be re-routed to service Macquarie Way and Trinity Way, Drewvale.
  • Adding an additional evening service on the 451 departing Darra Station from Monday to Friday, to meet passenger requests for a later service connection.
  • Improved access and frequency on service for Forest Lake and Heathwood residents to Mt Ommaney, Indooroopilly and the CBD on the 460, to meet the significant growth of this area.
  • Improved access for Kangaroo Point on new 234 services, which is a route change to the 475.
