Hi Friend, welcome to the August edition of the Healthy Children Enews
Issue Highlights

Dandenong West Primary School is making the most of every opportunity in making their school a healthy place for children, staff and families.

The school is registered to the Achievement Program and is focusing on mental health and wellbeing as a priority area.

KidsMatter Primary is a great resource and framework which supports the implementation of the Achievement Program in addressing mental health and wellbeing across the whole school community.

Click here to find out how.

Thank you to all schools and early years services who completed our online survey to help us understand your training needs so we can support you in the Achievement Program.

We have now designed a special series of professional development opportunities for all Achievement Program settings.

Eating well does not have to mean extreme changes to your eating and shopping habits; it is not about fad diets or tricky recipes. Eating healthier starts with taking the first steps and making small changes to what you are already doing, such as adding an extra vegetable to your meal or snack.

The Department of Health and Healthy Together Greater Dandenong have launched the ‘Start with’ campaign to encourage residents in Greater Dandenong to take steps towards better health this winter.

The ‘Start with’ campaign is part of a comprehensive effort to create opportunities for healthier eating where we live, learn, work and play.

If you would like to receive posters and postcards to support the promotion of this important healthy lifestyle message please contact us at healthandwellbeing@cgd.vic.gov.au

Healthy Together is now online!
Here are some brand new websites for you to check out.

The Achievement Program website allows you to register online, read stories from other schools and services around the state and download benchmarks and other information.

More information will be added to this website over time, and in future it will also include a members access area for Achievement Program participants to upload their documents.

The site also includes information on the Healthy Workplaces Achievement Program.

This is great site to share with your school community, so they can find out what the Achievement Program is all about!

Achievement Program schools and early childhood services receive:

  • resources, tools and training
  • opportunities to partner with the wider community
  • recognition through local and state media.

If you are not already registered to the Achievement Program we encourage you to do so here!

The Healthy Together Victoria website is useful for everyone and is jam-packed with healthy living information. You can access tip sheets on a wide range of topics and read stories about families and individuals making small changes for healthier lives. This website ties in with the state-wide 'Start With' marketing campaign and may be useful to share with families who are looking for health information. Click here.

What do children know about being healthy?

Talking to kids about health doesn’t have to be a boring lecture.

Our colleagues over at Healthy Together Knox have been working hard to find resources that Early Years Services can use to get children and families talking about health.

They have put together a wonderful list of books, activities, websites and more to help.

Click here to view the list.
In this section we include information about the latest news, dates, training opportunities and resources for you to check out.

Check out our Healthy Children article in Council's The City Magazine (p.14)! Thank you Spring Parks Primary School for participating in the photo opportunity.
