A word from the Executive Director,
Gerry Knights...
Welcome to our second update on what is happening in 2018 - at 'your
very own' local Regional Academy of Sport.
Firstly, the ClubsNSW 'Your Local Club' Academy
Games is just around the corner and as we all prepare for an intense but fun-filled trip to the Hunter
Region; we need to recognise and reflect on the hard work already put in by all athletes, coaches and
support staff, plus James Watson and Sam Scholte in the office.
It would be the greatest
of understatements to say we are extremely busy, with all sports working in overdrive at training and
competition sessions. And, the results have been 'fantastic'.
Three members of our golf
squad equalled or bettered their individual handicap, and Brandon Vella took out the nett competition,
at the recent Bathurst Junior Masters.
Lachlan McLean, a member of our West 'Future
Stars' program recently competed in the Junior World Cup for Shooting. And, our girls Softball team competed
and WON the Waverley Easter Tournament over the Easter long- weekend, against teams from the ACT, NSW
and Victoria.
A big thank you goes to Camden and Wollondilly Councils for again holding
civic receptions for Academy athletes, coaches and support staff members, representing their LGA's.
We look forward to both Campbelltown and Liverpool Councils holding similar
civic receptions, in coming weeks.
As always, we must remember that Academy
success is due to the work of many, starting from coaches and support staff members at the club and school
level, through to our association and regional supporters, and our highly generous corporate sponsors.
The Academy is proud to be one, but important stepping stone in the development pathway
of our local athletes, in support of their sporting 'Dreams'.
More amazing things to
report in coming weeks,
Gerry Knights
