Term 1, Week 1 - Friday 1 February 2019

From the Principal

Welcome
Dear parents and friends of Rostrevor College, on behalf of our teachers and support staff I welcome you to the 2019 Academic Year.  Of course, we offer a special welcome to the 156 new students and their families who join our community for the first time this year.  We are delighted that you have chosen Rostrevor and we look forward to getting to know you in the weeks and months ahead.

We would also like to congratulate Ingrid Kennerley who has been named SA Citizen of the Year and Lower Eyre Peninsula's Citizen of the Year for her outstanding community involvement. The mother of recent AFL draftee and Rostrevor boarder, Jacob Kennerley, is among our many wonderful Rostrevor parents who set great examples for their sons every day.

As you can see from this week's gallery, our Valley ceremony on Wednesday morning brought parents, students and teachers together for the official opening of our 96th year.  With our boys in Year 7 and Year 8 heading off to camps immediately after the opening, it was certainly a very full day.

2018 SACE Results
In case you missed the summary of our SACE results, CLICK HERE.  As you can see, our boys were handsomely rewarded for their persistent efforts throughout the year.  With 88% of our graduates gaining entry to their preferred University course, three boys being selected in the AFL Draft, a major award to be announced at the SACE Merit Ceremony next week and a long list of other accolades, the Class of 2018 take their place in a long line of outstanding achievements at Rostrevor College.

While the SACE results continue to improve, the key to maintaining this trend over the long term is ongoing review of our work as teachers and a continued focus on the needs of every boy. Therefore, well before the boys returned for the year, our teachers have been busy updating and preparing for the year ahead. This work continues throughout the year and we look forward to sharing some of the major developments that will offer improved learning outcomes for your son.

A thought for the year ahead:

"Jesus keeps knocking on our doors, the doors of our lives.  He doesn't do this by magic, with special effects, with flashing lights and fireworks.

Jesus keeps knocking on our door in the faces of our brothers and sisters, in the faces of our neighbours, in the faces of those at our side."

                                      - Pope Francis

With best wishes for the year ahead.

Brian
