Welcome to our June Newsletter edition, which again provides you with a brief snapshot of some of the highlights, of what is happening at 'your very own' local Regional Academy of Sport.
The 2019 'Your Local Club' Academy Games was recently, successfully held across the Hunter Region. And, I am pleased to report that all the hard work put in by our Academy athletes, coaches and support staff members, was reflected in the Academy's amazing results.

Highlights of the Academy's performance included:

AFLW   Runners Up
Golf   Overall Individual Winner
    Overall Individual Runner Up
    Overall Team Winner
Netball   Runners Up
Softball   Girls - Overall Winners
    Boys - Runners Up


Plus, a large number of personal best performances, in individual sporting events.

As always, we must remember that Academy success is due to the work of many, starting from coaches and trainers at the club and school level; through to our association and regional supporters, and our highly generous corporate sponsors.

The Academy is proud to be one, but important stepping stone in the development pathway of our local athletes, in support of their sporting 'Dreams'.

Academy gets Hole in One at
Charity Golf Day

20 teams gathered from around the South West Sydney and Sydney Metropolitan region to support local scholarship holders at the South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS).

The day started off with a plenty of chatter and networking while the golfers plenished themselves with a hearty breakfast before a big day on the green!

Local junior fast tracked to representative netball

South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) netball program graduate Courtney Castle has been turning heads on court for NSW Waratahs in the Australian Netball League (ANL).

The 17 year old has played two games for the Waratahs so far; one was a loss against Southern Force and the second a win over Northern Territory Storm.

Commencing her representative journey as a Liverpool junior, Courtney was successful in attaining a SWSAS scholarship and after three years with the Academy, Courtney felt that she had developed the right technical and athletic skill set to be able to progress...

Pitcher Perfect for Skilled Teen

A BRADBURY teenager's rocket arm has taken her around the world, representing Australia's green and gold in softball.

Mia Gilmore, 16, will soon have an American stamp in her passport, leaving the country later this month. The pitcher began playing the sport as a seven year old, inspired by her family's love for the game, and lists her pop as a sporting hero. "He is the one who trains me and pushes me hard to get to where I want to be," she said.

Gilmore said, despite her recent triumphs, success didn't happen overnight.

"At the start of my adventure I hated softball because I could hardly catch a ball that came to me," she said....

Young High Flyer aiming for 10 out of 10

South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) through its Wests Future Stars program is pleased to announce the commencement of scholarship for Douglas Park athlete Thomas Noakes.

Noakes who attends the Macarthur Anglican School has well and truly announced his arrival in the world of Decathlon! A solid track runner with a love of athletics and a strong desire to compete, almost by accident started building his skills in this most gruelling of events...

Harrington Park golfer Robbie Minns put in an outstanding performance to lead all the way in the highly prestigious event and adding this tournament trophy to his collection.
