April 2019

From the Acting Director of Boarding

In term one we welcomed 21 new boarding students to Duggan House.  Overall we have been impressed with the way our new lads have settled in and we hope that they can continue to build on a positive start to the year.

Bonding weekend saw us participate in a basketball tournament on Friday evening, a trip to Glenelg on Saturday and engage in a range of activities on Sunday including the famous Slip 'N Slide.  This year the boys also had a go at an artistic expression on our new table tennis table top.  We had a few participants in the annual Pembroke Pool Party (week 2), an ultra-competitive in-house AFL 9's match (week 7) and we closed the term out with a pool tournament.

Cricket was in full swing through the term.  Max Ramsey (below) became the 700th player to represent Rostrevor's First XI cricket squad and the boarders comfortably beat the day students in the annual 20/20 battle for glory.

Aside from our year 12 leaders, the boys elected year level representatives for 8/9, 10 and 11 in Darcy McKenny, Tristan Hunter and Harrison Scholz respectively. These boys will act as a voice for their peers and have already injected some valuable feedback and ideas.

A big thank you is in need for Liam and Darcy McKenny for their support on the Rostrevor stand at the South-East Field Days and a special mention to Andrew and Oscar Klose who raised a mammoth total just shy of $8,000 for men's health in their Ski for Life event.  The boys skied 450km in a team from Murray Bridge to Renmark. A great initiative and an impressive feat by these young men.  Well done!

On staffing matters, we employed two casual staff at the beginning of the term David York and Alex Cusack. Both have built fantastic relationships in the short time they've been here.  Eugene Evans is looking forward to resuming his duties as Director of Boarding and we bid farewell to Mahendra Chitrarasu, Chris Robinson and Ben Clohesy who have supported our boys here for a number of years. They will be missed for their genuine care, even temperaments and sound tutoring skills. We hope their future pathways are fulfilling!

We wish Jaquan Scott a safe journey on the Rostrevor New Orleans music trip and look forward to hearing what all the boys have been up to over the break.

Happy Easter to all, enjoy the next two weeks.
