Term 4, Week 2 - Friday 25 October 2019

Term 4, Week 2 Update

Presentation Night
Our Presentation Night will be held on Monday 28 October commencing at 7.00pm. This annual event is one of our community highlights when we recognise the achievements of those who have excelled.

Families are reminded that this is a compulsory event for all. Your son's Pastoral Care Teacher (Middle and Senior) or Class Teacher (Primary) will be in the foyer of the Hall from approximately 6.30pm to mark the roll. The event will conclude at 8.45pm which we feel is reasonable for all age groups.

While school is not quite over for our Year 12 students as they prepare for exams and finalise major assessments, this will be the last opportunity for us as a whole school community to bid them farewell. We have several things planned for the evening to pay tribute to our senior class which I know you will enjoy.

We look forward to a memorable evening in celebration of each and every student's personal achievements throughout the year.

Organisational Matters for Year 12 Students
Mr Pezos and I addressed the Year 12 cohort at the end of last term regarding finalising school assessments, upcoming exams and conduct. As the year draws to a close, there are many important matters that need to be attended to, including the return of text books. Parents/caregivers of Year 12 students would have received a letter outlining this information.

Term 3 Academic Awards and the Br Godfrey Hall Academic Shield
A total of 71 Middle/Senior Years students attained a Palma Merenti Award for the Term 3 report cycle. Our Year 12 recipients were presented with their certificates at the Social Justice Assembly today. Please click on the link below for the names of all Middle/Senior Years Palma Merenti Award recipients.

LEAP (Learning Extension & Acceleration) Applications
The LEAP Program is available to both current students entering Year 8 and new students entering Years 8 and 9 in 2020.

A letter has been sent to parents/caregivers outlining the process for application and selection. Applications close on Wednesday 6 November 2019.

LEAP Extension is available to selected students in Years 8 and 9 who demonstrate exceptional aptitude and ability in English and Mathematics. The program provides an enriched learning environment designed to extend and challenge each individual to achieve his full potential.

LEAP Acceleration may also provide some students with the opportunity to participate in curriculum acceleration in Mathematics. The course is compacted and opportunities for in depth study are provided. Students would usually complete Years 8-10 in two years, giving them an extended range of options for their final years of schooling. Ability to undertake Acceleration is confirmed via testing facilitated by the Mathematics Head of Faculty. If Acceleration into the next year level is not deemed appropriate, Extension within the LEAP class is still available.

Upon acceptance into the Acceleration Program, students may subsequently choose to complete additional South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) credits, enabling them to accrue a greater breadth of Stage 2 subjects in the senior years. Some students may undertake some university studies while completing their Stage 2 course.
