Sport is Back
The announcement by the NSW Acting Minister
for Sport, bright and early Wednesday morning was a blessing to the ears for all associated with local
and professional sporting organisations, and Regional Academies across NSW.
We recognise that there will be a myriad of various challenges facing
all involved with running sport, but I am sure they will be overcome with patience. It may take this and
next year to get back to some form of normality. And to bed in the positive changes that will come about
from the experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But I am certain sport will be in a better place overall in the future, due to the challenges and experiences
learnt over past months.
Your
local Academy is no exception, it has revamped its off-field service provision and positively changed
its future service deliver model.
Much of this initial development work has been undertaken by our incoming sports coordinator Daniel
Currinckx, combined with the practical experience input of our amazing Netball head coach Van Nguyen.
These changes will hopefully seem effortless,
and the athlete and coach development outcomes outstanding.
To conclude, thank you to our Academy 'naming rights' partner the Campbelltown
Catholic Club and our Platinum Partner SOUTH32, plus our local
Councils and all of our corporate partners, who have continued to support us during - and hopefully after
the COVID-19 pandemic.

NSW Regional Academies of Sport make Innovative Headway during COVID-19
For over three decades the Regional Academies of Sport (RAS) have enjoyed
a strong partnership with the NSW Government through the Office of Sport which has allowed the RAS network
to help foster the development of young regional talent across NSW. This long-lasting relationship
was highlighted in the last Olympic cycle (Rio de Janeiro and Pyeongchang), where the Regional Academy
system produced 34 athletes that represented Australia, winning an unbelievable 41% of Australia's medal
tally.
At present the Regional
Academy collective, made up of nine independent organisations and two government managed operations, support
over 2,500 young athletes and 350 plus coaches and support staff members, across 30 varied sporting codes.

Academy
making the right moves in search of silver lining
The absence of structure and organized events within the sporting world has been a significant challenge
for participants and administrators across the board.
Covid-19
has led our whole society into new territory but, as is, often the case; opportunity is born in adversity.
South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) is one sports organisation
that has worked hard to find a silver lining during this challenging period.
And two brand new initiatives are proof that such an approach can pay dividends. In the first of these,
SWSAS has partnered with Elite-Travel to introduce a Citizen of the Year award.
"This initiative will acknowledge several of our community's unsung heroes as nominees,'' says academy
chief executive Gerry Knights.

Young
athletes can't perform but their learning is on track
The South West Sydney Academy of Sport is not letting the grass grow under its feet during the coronavirus
hiatus.
While it is unable to provide athletes technical
and educational service content face to face, it is turning to cyber space to ensure their development
continues.
Several online platforms, including webinars,
have been created to deliver educational material to the young athletes across 10 topics, from nutrition
to sports psychology.
Webinars across the 10 topics have
been developed over the past three years through the support of one of the academy's major community partners,
ClubsNSW.
And the timing of this development has been perfect,
recognising current self-isolation requirements.
One athlete
who appreciates the remote learning offered via the webinars is rising golf star Adam Derbas (pictured).
Adam, who recently reduced his handicap to two, hooked into the sport
psychology webinar and has nothing but praise for the program.
"Putting my air pods in and listening to music I hate, whilst practising my chipping sounds like a
great challenge,'' he says.
