MESSAGE FROM NICOLE

Merry Christmas everyone

It has been another full year of highs and lows for our community with 2022 drawing to a close.  I think we are all happy about that. Listening to the graduation speeches of school captains over the past few weeks has reminded me that our young people are so resilient, brave and smart. They have adapted to the ongoing challenges of COVID and the floods with courage and optimism. Well done to all the young people graduating from primary and high school this year and best wished for the next steps in your journey.

A big thank you to all the volunteers, including local businesses, who helped our community recovery from the floods. People like Wendy from Graceville Fine Foods are now collecting gifts for Drought Angels to help those in need in rural Queensland. Today is the last day to drop off a gift. For many residents their flood journey is ongoing and many people are still doing it tough. Resilience funding and buy back offers are now slowly being made by the State and Council but next year will be another challenging one with rebuilding in the current market such a challenge.

My staff and I thank you for your support in 2022 and we look forward to working with you next year to rebuild and thrive in our wonderful local community.

Best wishes for a joyous Christmas and a happy and healthy 2023 with your family and friends, Regards Nicole.

Ps... there are some fantastic events on over the school holidays - check them out below. I hope to see you one of them including the Sherwood Festival this Saturday from 3pm done a little differently in the Sherwood Arboretum this year.

WALTER TAYLOR BRIDGE REPAIR WORKS

Asphalt repair works are scheduled for the Walter Taylor Bridge at Chelmer between 9pm and 5am from this Monday 12 December until Thursday 15 December, weather permitting.

Vehicle access on the bridge will be reduced to a single lane with a contraflow arrangement and traffic control in place during work hours. Footpath access will remain open, except between 2am and 4am on Monday 12 December to complete minor repairs to the footpath surface. A contraflow arrangement will also be in place intermittently on Wharf St, Chelmer when works are occurring on the section of bridge overhead.

Thank you in advance for your patience while these works are undertaken.
