MESSAGE FROM NICOLE

Hi everyone

Everyday residents ask me about infrastructure upgrades around Tennyson Ward. There are hundreds of projects awaiting funding around the ward including - stormwater drainage, road safety projects, intersection upgrades, carpark and sporting club upgrades, library upgrades,  public transport improvements, new lighting, toilets and much, much more. I recently published a map with all the significant local projects I am fighting for as your local Councillor. If you have an idea or want to know if a local project you are interested in is on the list please do not hesitate to contact my office tennyson.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au.

If you are looking to have some fun activities there are a great range of local events on in the What's on section below.  The good news is we are right in the middle of fete season and there are some wonderful  events coming up over the next few weeks including:

  • St Joey's Corinda Fete, from 9am Sun 30 July;
  • Corinda SS Festival of Nations, from 10am Sat 5 August; and
  • Graceville SS Spring Fair, all day Sat 26 August.

Pop along and help support our wonderful local schools, pick up a bargain and have a lot of fun! I hope to see you there.

Regards, Nicole.

ps...Council's Sustainability Grants are now open for application. Grants for up to $10,000 are available to non-profit Community organisations to invest in solar panels, batteries and more to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce energy costs and usage. Click here to apply.

PARKS UPDATE

John Walker Place Gym

The new outdoor gym at John Walker Place on Brisbane Corso Yeronga is now under construction. The Corso is already a wonderful place to walk and ride and this new outdoor gym will help residents keep fit in the great outdoors for free!

Join me for the official launch on Saturday, 12 August between 2 - 4pm where a local personal trainer will be on hand to show you how to use the equipment, there will be games for the kids and afternoon tea. I hope to see you there.

Robinson Park Shade Sail

The new shade sails were recently installed at Robinson Park, Fairfield and looked fantastic. Unfortunately, there was a tear in one of the sails and it is now being replaced. The playground upgrade looks amazing so check it out.

Jacaranda Park, Yeronga Upgrade Have your say!

Planning is now underway for a park and playground upgrade in Jacaranda Park Yeronga. I welcome feedback from residents about what you would like to see. Keep in mind, Jacaranda Park is a local park designed for families within walking distance  not a destination park designed to attract people from across Brisbane. I've attached a short survey seeking your view or even better your children's views. Get them to fill it out and have their say! Click here to get started.

Taylor Bridge Park, Chelmer

This year Council has allocated $150,000 to undertake a replacement play area at flood damaged Taylor Bridge Reserve under the southern bridge pylon.  Due to flooding impacts and safety issues around roots of the big fig, Council has designed an innovative nature play area, new safety fencing, footpath connection and swings. The upgrade is due to be open before Christmas. Just up the road at Gordon Thompson Park, tenders are now being called for the big kids ninja warrior course. Costs have gone through the roof, but $250,000 has now been allocated from the Ward Trust Funds to deliver this challenging fitness and play equipment.

COST OF LIVING SUPPORT

There are some wonderful support services and free activities around Tennyson Ward to help you or someone you know manage cost of living issues. If you have something to give there are several community pantries that welcome donation of non-perishable food items. Or you are welcome to drop them in to my office and we will get food donations where they are needed most.  Check out the details below.
