MESSAGE FROM NICOLE
Hi Everyone

While the weather has turned colder, there is no excuse for sitting at home with a great range of community events and activities on over the next month. Here are just a few: a fete, a street party, a fun run, gardening, birdwatching, a walk for out veterans, a major green festival, the Men's Shed turn's five and more. You can even take a rare behind the scenes tour of the Oxley sewerage plant. It's a bit smelly but fascinating. Check out all the details below.

We are so lucky to live in a diverse and inclusive community, so please come along and try out one of the wonderful events on locally in the next few weeks. I look forward to seeing you there.

Regards Nicole.

GRACEVILLE SCIP COMPLETE

After a year of planning and construction, the Graceville Honour Ave SCIP is now complete.

Works included new footpaths, landscaping, pedestrian refuges, history panels, street furniture, seating and very unusual artwork on the corner of Bank Rd and Honour Ave that I suspect will be a talking point for years to come!

I want to thank you for your patience during what has been a difficult build resulting in some disruption to the shopping precinct and surrounding homes. While I do not agree with everything Council has done, it is time to put aside those issues and celebrate the re-launch of our wonderful local shops and services.

The Honour Ave/Bank Rd precinct is a food and entertainment hub in our neighbourhood and we are blessed to have such great local businesses in our area. To keep them we need to support them!

Join me on Sunday, 17 July for a special 'Sunday Lunch' from 12 noon to re-discover all the precinct has to offer. I look forward to seeing you there.

To all those who signed the petition to improve access and safety to the indented car parking I want to say thank you. While I had hoped Council would widen the indented area, they have widened the bays. This is still a huge improvement and we achieved a great outcome by speaking up as a community.

Sherwood Arboretum Bird Walk

One of Australia's leading ecologists, Professor Hugh Possingham of The University of Queensland, will introduce you to the Arboretum's stunning birdlife at 7.00am on Sunday 17 July, starting at the Jolimont Street entry.

The Arboretum offers an ideal home for birdlife thanks to its well-protected wetlands, a collection of more than 1000 Australian native trees and the important 'wildlife corridor' of the Brisbane River at the front door.

Sunday's walk will finish with a relaxing morning tea by the river. The cost of just $5.00 for adults for morning tea helps support the voluntary work of the Friends of Sherwood Arboretum Association.
Please remember to RSVP by Wednesday 13 July by calling 3278 6525 or by emailing info@sherwoodarboretum.com.au

Sherwood Indooroopilly RSL STOMP

The Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL STOMP Challenge Brisbane on 24 JULY 2016 will see you and your teams walk from ANZAC Square in Brisbane City to the Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL Club. The 17.7km trek via the banks of the Brisbane river, the University of Queensland, the St.Lucia Golf Course and along Honour Avenue and Brisbane suburbs pathways will depart from 6:30am and commemorate the WW1 Queenslander Soldiers and Whiskey Wish.

Participants are also invited to join the Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL Club for refreshments on completion of the event.

RSPCA CUPCAKE DAY 2016

Come along to Hyde Road Dog Park, Yeronga on August 14 from 9am - 2pm for endless cupcakes, as well as a dog wash, sausage sizzle, raffles, coffee and more!

Every year, the hardy volunteers from the Fehlberg Puppy Park organise a fantatsic event that raises thousands of dollars for the RSPCA. Come along and help them raise vital funding for the RSPCA's operations.

Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is all about baking, eating and, most importantly, fundraising for animals in need. When you put on your apron and whip out that mixing bowl, you are helping to ensure animals across Australia are treated with dignity and love. Who would've known the humble cupcake could transform lives?

Bakers needed! This year, the Hyde Road Dog Park Group have a goal of 3,500 cupcakes! If you'd like to help out, please email cupcake@kahootzclothing.com

ROAD AND CONSTRUCTION WORKS
Please take note of the following closures and construction works:

STREET RESURFACING

SHERWOOD TO TENNYSON UNDERGOUND WORKS

From early June, Energex began installing underground cable between the Tennyson and Sherwood substations as part of works to upgrade the network. This will continue to require some road work and possible delays along King Arthur Terrace, Camelot Street, Vivian Street, Plumer Street and Lockwood Street.

Residents can expect traffic control around work areas, large machinery operation, intermittent higher noise levels and minor trenching works around joint bays.

The majority of works will be conducted between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. However, occasional weekend work will be required.

While some disruptions are expected, your cooperation and understanding during these necessary works are appreciated.

The works are due to be completed in late 2016. For more information, visit the Energex website here.

GRACEVILLE STATION ACCESSIBILITY UPGRADE

In the coming weeks, the following construction works can be expected on and around the Graceville Station:
  • further underground service relocations
  • additional temporary lighting installations
  • preliminary foundation works for new lift shafts
  • temporary removal of some furniture, lighting and signage on platforms 3 and 4 to prepare for lift shaft works.

Customers and residents may experience noise from heavy machinery, use of reversing beepers, changed traffic and parking conditions, mobile lighting towers, increased vehicle movement, and temporary changes to access paths throughout the station precinct. Residents will be given advanced notice of construction activities likely to cause impacts.

I understand that there are impacts associated with this work and appreciate your patience and understanding during this important and much-needed upgrade.
