BE PREPARED - SEVERE WEATHER ALERT

Weather Update

Average rainfall totals over the last 24hrs are between 100mm (10cm) and 220mm (22cm) across Brisbane. Further widespread rainfall totals of between 150mm (15cm) and 250mm (25cm) expected overnight. This rainfall will likely be very intense at times, leading to a risk of severe localised flash flooding.

Localised flooding in the usual hotspots (parks, roads, minor creeks) is occurring.

There are no forecasts for river flooding. If this changes I will update people.

Please be vigilant and follow the news tomorrow in case the weather situation deteriorates.

Roads Closed

Several roads are already closed due to flooding in Tennyson Ward, including:

  • Muriel Ave, Rocklea
  • Moolabin St, Yeerongpilly
  • Blackheath Rd, Corinda
  • Pratten St, Corinda
  • Melbourne and  Inskip Sts, Rocklea
  • Allawah St, Yeerongilly
  • Cliveden Ave, Corinda at Corinda SHS
  • Cliveden Ave, Corinda at Blackheath Rd
  • Halsbury St, Chelmer
  • Jolimont St, Sherwood
  • Eddystone Road, Corinda
  • Chale Street, Yeerongpilly

Water is across several roads in the ward, including:

  • Brisbane Corso, Yeronga
  • Princess St, Fairfield
  • Oxley Rd - multiple locations
  • Fairfield Rd, Yeerongpilly
  • Sherwood Rd - multiple locations
  • Honour Ave, Chelmer near Chelmer Rail Station
  • Graceville Ave, Graceville near Souths Juniors Rugby League
  • Venner Rd, Fairfield near Souths Cricket

Please be careful on the roads. If this rain continues, I expect localised flooding to worsen in the usual locations.

Please do not drive through flooded roads. Water is moving fast and you do not know what is underneath #ifitsfloodedforgetit

A full list of city road closures can be found here.

Creek Flooding

Oxley Creek may reach Minor flood level in the next 6-12 hours.

Several local creeks are flooding, including:

  • Pennywort Creek
  • Moolabin Creek
  • Rocky Water Holes
  • Small Creek

These small tributaries are banking back and causing localised flooding to businesses in Yeerongpilly and Rocklea now.

Creek water levels are expected to continue to rise with the persistent rainfall. The creek catchments are now saturated so any further rainfall will likely result in flash flooding.

Public Transport

Graceville Rail Station is closed due to subway flooding.

There are minor delays on all train lines.

Delays can be expected on some bus routes:

  • Buses travelling both directions along the Pacific Motorway, Eight Mile Plains will experience delays of up to 30 minutes due to heavy traffic congestions.
  • Minor delays - 110, 122, 260, 262, 3039, 3082, 3094, 327, 345, 390, 524, 552, 612, 631, 674, 681, 682, 700, 748, 755, 758, 765

Please check the wet weather updates with Translink here for tomorrow's travel.

Parks

A number of local parks are experiencing significant flooding, Sherwood Arboretum and Faulkner Park, so please be careful when outdoors. In the aftermath of TC Debbie, a Bullshark was found several kilometres inland outside of Bowen, so you never know what the water can bring.
