BE PREPARED - SEVERE WEATHER ALERT

After some wild and wet weather last night, it's blue skies so far today. Council has started clean-up today, but it will take some time to get to all the downed trees and other damage. Please be patient and report any problems to my office.

Weather Update

In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall in the Ward was at Corinda with 244mm. The highest in the City was Richlands at 291mm.

There is a minor flood warning for the Brisbane River, which is expected to be similar to a king tide, on the next high tide about midnight tonight. This is not expected to cause flooding in Tennyson Ward. The usual localised flooding around Rocklea, Corinda and Sherwood may be experienced, similar to yesterday.

Major flood warnings are in place outside Brisbane, around Logan and Beaudesert.

The severe weather warning for ex-TC Debbie has been cancelled.

Wind gusts of between 25km and 40km per hour are being experienced around the City. But, the good news is blue skies outside.

Green Waste

Brisbane City Council is offering free tipping of green waste at all four resource recovery centres until Sunday afternoon, to assist residents in clearing storm waste from their properties.

Resource recovery centres are located at Willawong, Chandler, Nudgee and Ferny Grove and are open from 6.30am to 5.45pm daily.

Kerbside pick-up will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you know of any elderley or disabled people who need assistance, please contact my office.

Roads Closed

Several roads are closed due to flooding in Tennyson Ward, including:

  • Pratten Street, Corinda
  • Cliveden Ave, Corinda at Corinda SHS
  • Ipswich Motorway, Oxley (on and off ramps from Blunder Road to the City)
  • Ipswich Road Off Ramp, Oxley (Factory Road Loop)
  • Oxley Station Road, Oxley (near the roundabout at Oxley Road)
  • Eddystone Road, Corinda
  • Melbourne Street, Rocklea
  • Elmes Road, Rocklea

Please do not drive through flooded roads. Water is moving fast and you do not know what is underneath #ifitsfloodedforgetit

A full list of city road closures can be found here.

Creek Flooding

Oxley Creek has reached minor flood levels and is holding steady.

Several local creeks are flooded and slowly falling, including:

  • Pennywort Creek
  • Moolabin Creek
  • Rocky Water Holes

Public Transport

Beenleigh Station Closed

Shorncliffe Line From North Gate to Shorncliffe Suspended

Reduced Frequency for City Hopper and Kangaroo Point Cross River Ferry

There is a lot of tree and vegetation damage around the Ward today on footpaths and in local parks. The tree down on Honour Ave has been cleared and there's a gum tree down in the Brisbane River at Chelmer.

Pot holes are appearing and many street signs have been damaged or fallen over in the soggy conditions.

The basketball court at George Scarlett Park, Corinda was underwater this morning.

We have advised Council's disaster recovery team, but please let me know if you notice damage and debris in your street or local park, to help direct clean-up efforts.
