Happy New Year from the team at Kickbike Australia. 2017 has started
in style with some nice warm weather, and a worthy challenge. Jo Hassan has had a goal for 2
years now to join the Footbike Century Club, but injury and the time spent organising the Footbike
World Champs have "got in the road" over the last 2 years. This year she has committed to ticking
it off her list by doing a "Pink 100" that will also help raise some much needed funds to support
Heartkids.
Heartkids is a registered charity that provides lifelong support to kids,
and their families, with childhood heart disease. They also fund life-saving research, advocate
for the needs of children with CHD, and to provide information and education to the public. Most of you
may not be aware that Jo's son Ali is a zipper baby himself.
We are looking for support
in 3 ways, firstly and obviously, donations to Heartkids. We suggest sponsoring a $ amount on completion,
or based on the number of Kms completed. Secondly, a couple of volunteers will be needed on the day
as supporters, and thirdly anyone who is also keen to challenge themselves by joining Jo in
the "Pink 100" challenge, and also helping to raise some funds themselves.
We know
that kicking 100km on a Footbike sounds daunting, so we are setting up a regular kick schedule, to help
you increase your distances progressively over the next 8 months. Kicking 100km is easier when you
have done the lead up training.
Kicks for the next 4 weeks.
Sunday 15th Jan - 6.30am 2 to 22km Toombul towards Nudgee Beach and return. Starting from the Toombul shopping
Centre, carpark parking under the airport rail overpass opposite the NAB. This is a flat out and back
course. You can do any distance you like from 2 to 22km, as you can turn around at any point. Coffee or
brunch afterwards at Toombul shopping centre. Hire Kickbikes are available if this would be your first
time, but need to be prebooked with me.
Sunday 22nd Jan - Pink 100 training -
New Urban Rail Trail 4-14km
North Lakes to Kippa-Ring - meet in the Carpark at Mango Hill Train Station - Halpine Drive Mango
Hill. This course follows the train line out and back course, so you can turn around when you are
ready, or if you have tried to go too far on your first kick then you can catch a train back.
Sunday 29th Jan - 6.30am - 6-18km Kangaroo Point to West End and return.
Out and back. Meet on Bright St Kangaroo Point, just down from the Story Bridge Hotel. Brekkie
afterwards at the Story Bridge cafe. All welcome.
Saurday 4th Feb - 6.30am
- Minnipi Parklands kick. Meet at the start of the Minnipi parklands at the end of Stanton Road
West in Tingalpa. (The one off Graystone St. and not to be confused with the Stanton Road Tingalpa,
that's off Wynnum Road.) If you pass a model aero club you are on the right road. We head from there out
through Carindale to Mansfield and return. The track is mainly bike paths. Breakfast or coffee
afterwards will be in Bulimba.
Saturday 18th Feb - 6.30am - 8-18km -
Pink 100 training - Urban Rail Trail North Lakes to Kippa-Ring - meet
in the Carpark at Mango Hill Train Station - Halpine Drive Mango Hill. This course follows the train line
out and back course, so you can turn around when you are ready, or if you have tried to go too far on
your first kick then you can catch a train back.
From here the Pink 100 training events will
be once a month, and the schedule will come out in the next 2 weeks.
Forward
dates -
Sunday 5th March 2017 - 65 kick from Caboolture to Stafford - Cycle of Giving
supporting the Prince Charles Hospital.
Giro D'Italia
5 Czechs
and 1 Fin are in the middle of training at the moment to complete the Giro D'Italia. This is quite
a mean feat on a Bike, let alone on a Footbike. These guys will complete 3572km on 21 stage days between
5th and 28th May this year. There will be some incredibly tough days with some major hill climbs and averaging
170km per day, with a maximum for 1 day of 237km.
They are also raising funds with merchanise,
check it out at www.kickitaly2017.com/en/ and if you are keen to purchase any of the gear, then let me
know as we will combine for an Australian order to save on shipping,.
I look forward to seeing
you all out there kicking.
Cheers
