MESSAGE FROM NICOLE

Happy New Year everyone

I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas New Year break with your family and friends. There are still some wonderful school holiday activities on in Council parks and libraries -- please check them out below.

I hope that you can join me for a FREE Movie in the Park on the Oval at Graceville State School on Saturday, 8 February food from 5.30pm and Movie from 6.45pm (sunset) or in the Hall if raining. The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a fun, family friendly movie and this is a great ways to get to know other local families. All proceeds from the BBQ will go back to the P&C to reinvest into the school.

Regards, Nicole.

PROPOSED SHERWOOD FASTFOOD
A development application has been lodged to build two new 24/7 fast food restaurants next to the Sherwood Bus Depot at 9 Lahey Close, Sherwood. One is a McDonald's and one is unnamed.

Whilst I am not opposed to McDonald's generally, I worked at one for many years as a teenager, I am concerned about the location and size of these two fast food places. In particular, traffic issues, including the expected additional 200 vehicles per hour, lack of car parking, inadequate footpaths, the limited turning and sightlines, and additional pressure on nearby intersections and conflict with buses.  The buildings exceed the maximum allowable 250sqm footprint and fail to meet minimum setbacks, landscaping and tree planting requirements. Plus, there are already McDonald's nearby at Indooroopilly, Oxley, Rocklea and Annerley.

You can sign the petition here  to STOP the DA until 7 February or view the DA online.
SHERWOOD UNFENCED DOG PARK TRIAL

Thank you to everyone who sent in feedback about the six month Sherwood unfenced dog off leash trial in Thomas St Park, Sherwood. There are eight of these types of unfenced dog parks in Brisbane and they provide a low cost way for dog activities to be undertaken in suburbs without a fenced dog park. There has been overwhelming support for the dog off leash area to remain permanent, with 85% of respondents in favour of this outcome.

However, 18% of those who responded in support of the dog off leash area would like to see it relocated within the park. I will update Council with these results and look at options to move the dog off leash area slightly east and I will also ask to have a tap and bowl installed. I will update you in due course with their response.

The trial area will remain in place for use until a final decision has been made on its location.

HONOUR AVE PEDESTRIAN UPGRADE PETITION

I was recently approached by a Chelmer resident to upgrade the pedestrian crossing point near the staircase overpass over the rail line between Honour Ave and Graceville Memorial Park.

This is a busy crossing point for school students and local residents heading to the park.  In response, a petition has been established that you can sign here  until 31 January. Currently there is a refuge at this location but no safety cage or zebra crossing. Thank you to Namit for getting this idea going!
