MESSAGE FROM NICOLE

Hi Everyone

Congratulations to the Sherwood Forest Runners Group on celebrating their 38th anniversary on Saturday.  Many of the founding runners were in attendance and still put in cracking times. I was delighted to be the honorary starter on Saturday and cheer home all runners including Olympian Gerard Gosens in training for his for Tokyo Para-Olympic preselection. The running group is on every Saturday 6.45am for 7am start at the Sherwood Arboretum, Jolimont St, Sherwood near the carpark. All abilities and ages are welcome with 2-6km runs.

I'll be outside Sherwood Woolies from 9am-11am on Saturday morning if you would like to stop by for a chat or discuss any local issues. The high level of vacancies in the street is a real concern at the moment. Local shopkeepers are telling me rents are very high. Council has announced a grant for pop up shops and I'm still pushing for a creative lighting project. I'd love to hear your ideas though.

I hope to see you and your pets at the upcoming Pet Fair in Yeronga Memorial Park. This is a new event for the Ward with activities for pets, discounted vet services, a pet trick competition and food and fun for the whole family.  All pets welcome. I'll see you there 2-5pm Saturday 29 March, Yeronga Memorial Park.

Regards, Nicole

Ps...Its inconceivable but we have had to postpone tomorrow night's screening of the Princess Bride at Robinson Park Fairfield. It will be rescheduled!

DUNLOP PARK, CORINDA LEARN TO RIDE TRACK

Work is nearly complete on the new learn to ride bike and scooter track for little people at Dunlop Park next to the pool. Wet weather has delayed completion slightly.  The new concrete track has all the signs and lines to help teach learner riders in a safe space. It's the culmination of the playground upgrade completed last year. Thanks to all the Corinda residents who contributed their ideas to this park upgrade project.

Playground Closure

The Dunlop Park Playground is currently closed to allow for emergency drainage works and works to extend the playground area by 20 square meters. These works should be completed by the end of the month, weather permitting. Apologies for any inconvenience.

HONOUR AVE, GRACEVILLE SPEED SURVEY

Despite strong support for a formal speed review along Honour Ave, Graceville. Brisbane City Council has refused and says it is "not required". They say 60kms is an "appropriate" speed limit and there is a low accident history and no pedestrian accidents since 2010. It's a really disappointing response given how busy the Honour Ave shopping precinct is and how many children walk to school and the rail stations every day.

The current stats show 14,398 per vehicles per weekday use Honour Ave at Graceville. 85% of vehicles are travelling at or below 58km (northbound) and 54km (southbound).

Whilst Council won't act on traffic concerns I will continue to rotate the two SAM slow down signs along Honour Ave in Chelmer and Graceville and the permanent slow down sign is in place near Wiley St, Graceville. Thank you to everyone who has attended a meeting, written and spoken with me about this issue. Traffic is only getting worse so I hope Council will revisit this issue in future.

NEW COMPOSTING HUB AT THE SEA SCOUTS

Council is hosting a welcome and information day for a new composting hub on Saturday 22
February 2020 from 10.30am - 12.30pm at Pamphlett Sea Scouts Hall
located on the corner of Nadine Street and Graceville Avenue, Graceville. I look forward to seeing you there. This free event will provide an opportunity for local residents to find out more about how to get involved in the new community composting hub and the importance of reducing the amount of organic waste being sent to landfill and minimising greenhouse gas emissions.

To learn more about composting and register in advance for a kitchen caddy visit Council's website here.

PETITION TO UPGRADE BMX FACILITY, CHELMER RECREATION RESERVE

A smart young man from St Peter's has created an e-petition to call for an upgrade to the BMX Facility at Chelmer Recreational Reserve on Oxley Rd. BMX is a great sport for people of all ages, but the current track is small and doesn't allow for all skill levels. Local school student Lewis is calling for an upgarde and a second, slightly more advanced track to cater for the rider demand and free up the existing track for younger and beginner riders. You can sign the petition he created here.

Dont forget you can check out Council's state of the art BMX track at Darra. Its' great for learners and advanced riders.
