Councillor Adrian Schrinner's October
e-News Update
A big 'thank you' for the past 5 years...
Five years ago, in September 2005, residents gave a 'fresh-faced' local a chance to represent
our wonderful area in Council, when I was elected in a by-election following the departure of Michael
Caltabiano.
In my first speech in Council, I said that my motivation was first and foremost to
serve my community and help to make our city a better place.
"My commitment to you,
and to the people of Chandler, is that I will work diligently and tirelessly to justify the trust you
placed in me on 10 September 2005." (Quote from my first
speech in Council)
Five years on, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for
the opportunity to work each day on your behalf.
In partnership with the local community and with
the enthusiastic support of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, some great improvements have been delivered for
our area. These include:
- The completion of Greendale Way and the Scrub Road extension
- Upgrades to numerous local parks, including the Carindale Recreation Reserve
- The
construction of new bikeways in Carina Heights, Camp Hill and Carindale
- Intersection upgrades
at New Cleveland/Tilley Roads and Creek/Pine Mt Roads
- The purchase of bushland in Burbank,
Chandler, Carindale and Carina Heights to protect if for future generations
- Renewing the bus
fleet with brand new air-conditioned buses for the Carina and Garden City depots
- Construction
of a $6 million public swimming pool at Mt Gravatt East
- Supporting local community and sporting
groups by securing numerous grants
A more comprehensive list of local projects is available
on my website.
While a lot has been achieved, there's always plenty more to be done and I look forward to
continuing to work with you into the future.
I am always keen to hear resident's ideas and
suggestions for our area and I encourage you to let me know your thoughts on how we can make our area
even better.
Yours sincerely,

Adrian Schrinner

State
Government introduces Australia's toughest pool safety laws
The
Queensland Parliament has introduced Australia‘s toughest new pool safety laws aimed at further
reducing the risk of young children drowning in swimming pools.
Stage two of the
new laws is expected to start this summer and affects existing swimming pools. Key changes include:
- * Pool safety certificates will be required
when selling or leasing a property with a pool
-
- * Both new and existing pools must be upgraded to comply with the standards
within five years unless the property is sold or leased first
-
- * All swimming pools will need
to be registered within six months of the commencement of the legislation
Although the laws are being introduced by the State Government, in most cases it will be the responsibility
of local Councils to enforce these laws.
Councillor Schrinner said residents seeking further information
about the laws can visit www.dip.qld.gov.au/poolsafety
or email info@dip.qld.gov.au.

loose items in the yard are secured, such as kids‘ toys and outdoor furniture, as well as sheltering
