WELCOME TO MY JULY EDITION
As we start yet another
financial year there are many Council projects I would like to alert you to. To keep this e-news reasonably
short I will focus on those with deadlines and provide information on each. I would also draw your attention
to the article about the annual Moggill Creek Catchment Group photographic competition.
The
draft new City Plan is an important document for residents to be aware of with a closing date for submissions
of 30 July. As of 1 July public consultation opened on the amended Natural Assets Local Law (NALL) and
will continue for one month.
A budget newsletter with more details will be in your letterbox
in the next few days. While the 13/14 budget has been delivered if you know of a footpath or road that
needs repair or would like a concrete footpath in your street please contact the Ward Office.
I hope you find this newsletter of interest.
As always, if I can be of assistance with any
Council matter, please contact my office on 3407 0220 or pullenvale.ward@ecn.net.au
LORD MAYOR'S BUDDING
ENTREPRENEURS
PROGRAM
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk
has launched the Budding Entrepreneurs Program, a Digital Brisbane initiative which will provide funding
of up to $5000 to carefully selected individuals who have a passion for entrepreneurship and an idea for
a tech start-up.
The program aims to stimulate greater levels of entrepreneurship among young
people, providing practical support, training and encouragement to the most promising entrepreneurs as
they explore opportunities to create high-growth, digital start-ups.
Entrepreneurs aged 17
to 30 are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate they have an idea for a digital business,
or a recently launched business that they would like to accelerate. Follow this link
for more information and guidelines.
First funding round for applications is open now and
will close on July 15.

BRISBANE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS GOES DIGITAL
Council has introduced
industry announcement videos to its website to explain some of the more complex aspects of planning in
easy-to-understand, jargon-free language.
The new video feature will walk people through
the development application process as well as explain how the plan sealing initiative, SealSMART, works.
Designed as a one-stop-shop for all questions relating to planning and development in Brisbane,
the website has been divided into five sections with both first time customers and industry professionals
in mind.

For further information follow this link
to the Brisbane City Council website and view the videos.
BELLBOWRIE PLAZA EXPANSION APPROVAL
The Council has approved a major expansion of the Bellbowrie Shopping Plaza between the current
centre and Sugarwood Street. I expressed concerns about the entrance for service vehicles being off Sugarwood
Street. Semi-trailers will be accessing Moggill Road from that intersection rather than the Birkin Road
intersection which is signalised.
I do not know when construction will commence. If you wish
to see more details go online and check the development application for 37 Birkin Road Bellbowrie (A003413627)
AMENDED NATURAL
ASSETS LOCAL LAW
Brisbane City Council
is proposing several amendments to the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 (NALL - trees and vegetation) and
how it works to help make it easier for residents and businesses with protected vegetation on or adjacent
to their properties. The changes focus on delivering a balance between protecting the city's natural vegetation
and significant trees and protecting people, property and lifestyle.

The proposed changes will simplify and streamline processes and in some cases reduce costs and time for
owners of land with protected vegetation. The amended law looks at reducing the number of protected vegetation
categories, introducing limited street tree pruning (only with Council permit), supporting use of
long-term permits, dealing with minor infringements and enforcement, improving the permit application
process and reviewing decisions on permits.
Council is seeking feedback on the proposed amendments
for the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 (NALL). For more information or to submit feedback follow this link
to the Council website. Download a copy of the proposed amendments and complete an online survey or
make a written submission by 26 July.

Competition where the Lord Mayor's Perpetual Shield is awarded to the winning school.
