LPC seminar: The Narrative Therapy approach in suicide prevention work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

This seminar will describe the contribution that Narrative ways of working can make to the area of suicide prevention and other related social and emotional wellbeing areas in counselling, group and community work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It will describe the key principles of the Narrative therapy approach and how the narrative methodology creates opportunities for bringing forward stories of identity that can be a source of resilience and wellbeing for those affected by social and emotional wellbeing stressors. The seminar will also explain how narrative ways of working are particularly useful for non-Indigenous workers committed to learning culturally appropriate and culturally safe and respectful ways of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
